Electric heating appliances are appliances that convert electrical energy into thermal energy. In home appliances, electric heating appliances occupy a high proportion. Commonly used in life are electric irons, rice cookers, electric stoves, electric water heaters, space heaters, electric heating pads, far-infrared electric heaters and so on.
Although there are many ways to obtain thermal energy, electric heating has the following outstanding advantages compared with the method of burning fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas:
(1) Cleanliness, little pollution No matter which fuel is used, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and other harmful pollutants are generated during the combustion process, and electric heating appliances do not generate harmful gases during the work process, and have no pollution to the surrounding environment.
(2) Easy temperature control During the combustion process of various fuels, the temperature can only be controlled by adjusting the flame size. This is not only difficult to operate, but also difficult to achieve constant temperature adjustment, and electric heating appliances can automatically control the temperature using temperature control components.
(3) Safe and reliable. Compared with the combustion of various fuels, the heating pad electric heating appliances have no open flame when working, which is relatively safe.
(4) The transportation and storage of fuel that is convenient to use brings great trouble to people's lives, and electric heating appliances can be easily used as long as they have a power source.
(5) High thermal efficiency Due to insufficient combustion of various fuels, the thermal efficiency is low. For example, the thermal efficiency of coal combustion is only 15% to 20%; although the thermal efficiency of coal combustion is high, it is only 40% to 50%; and the electrical heating efficiency can reach 65% to 90%. Because of the above obvious advantages, electric heating appliances have a wide range of applications and have become an indispensable daily appliance in people's lives.

Resistance heating

It can be known from the Joule-Lenz law that when a current passes through a conductor having a certain resistance, the conductor will generate heat. An electric heating device made by using the resistance to heat is called a resistance type electric heating device. Common resistance electric heaters include electric cookers, space heaters, car heating pads , electric irons, electric stoves, electric stoves, and the like. Resistance heating is the most important form of electric heating, and it is divided into two types: direct heating and indirect heating.
The direct heating method is to direct the current to the heated object and achieve heating by its own resistance heating. It is mainly used to heat objects with a certain resistance value. If the resistance value is too small (good electrical conductor) or too large (electrical insulator), it is not suitable for direct heating.
Early electric water heater products favored the design of heating water with its own resistance. This product has been eliminated due to insufficient safety measures. Contrary to the direct heating method, in the indirect heating method, the resistance that usually generates heat is not an object to be heated, but an electric heating element made of a special material of another type of electric heating appliance.
The electric current generates heat to the electric heating elements in the electric heating appliance, and then uses the heat transfer method (conduction, convection, radiation) to transfer the heat to the heated object, which is mainly used for heating and drying. This heating method is currently the most basic and widely used method, and is mainly used in household electric heating appliances such as electric rice cookers, electric blankets, household electric stoves, electric irons, and electric ovens. Compared with the direct heating method, due to various losses in the transfer process, the thermal efficiency will be reduced by 10-20%, but it is much safer and more reliable.
